Cool Kids Fun Days

	“Avast, me hearties! If you’re caught with your hands in that chest full of dubloons, you’ll be in for a good flogging. Arrrrr!”  Pirate talk like this took place in the imaginary world of the Caribbean at this year’s Cool Kids Days held by First Choice America Credit Union. The younger set could let their imaginations run wild as they donned Pirate garb and refreshed themselves at the hot dog and iced drink concession stands. More than 500 children showed up for this year’s festivities.  From Chester to Wheeling, and everywhere in between, the Oglebay Animal Show entertained both the children and parents.  A small alligator and snake are just two of the handful of animals that were on display at the four offices.   Each of the four offices also gave away a basket with over $100 worth of goodies, including four tickets to Kennywood in each basket.  You can tell by the photos that these young pirates  had a Yo-ho-ho jolly time!

Our 70th Anniversary Celebration Bond Winner

Timothy Martin (center) won the $1,000 U.S. Savings Bond in a drawing held for members by First Choice America Credit Union as part of its 70^th Anniversary celebration on May 15.  A credit union member for three years, Tim is a Wheeling resident who is employed by the State of West Virginia.Tom Modra, Manager of the Wheeling downtown office of First Choice America and Liz Murad, Assistant Manager, flank the lucky winner.

Our credit union’s 70^th anniversary celebration on May 15, 2009 attracted thousands of members to eight offices for cookies, coffee and cash prizes. Offices took on a festive look with colorful helium-filled balloons and tables covered with give-away items: souvenir key rings and bright blue tote bags with a 70^th anniversary logo.
Each office awarded five $70 cash prizes to members and there was one grand prize winner of a $1,000 U.S. Savings Bond.
The appearance of Froggy Radio added to the excitement at the Main Office, where the Board of Directors took part in anniversary cake-cutting ceremony.  Pictured at the ceremony are (l-r) Scott Winwood, President and CEO; Kenneth Truax, Board Member, Edward Kennedy, Board Member; John Thayer, Chairman of the Board; William Teaff, Board Member; Robert Mrvos, Board Member; and Stan Czahoroski, Chief Financial Officer.
Our credit union was founded on May 17, 1939, and by the end of that year, listed 977 members and assets of $20,000. Today, First Choice America with 42,000 members and assets of nearly $300 million ranks as the largest credit union in West Virginia.

    "On behalf of the Board of Directors, I thank and congratulate all of you for making 2008 an exceptionally great year for our credit union,” said John R. Thayer at the annual Employee Appreciation Banquet of First Choice America Credit Union. Eighteen employees of the credit union were presented service awards at the event held May 8 at Williams Country Club in Weirton.
  “Whatever your job, whatever office you work at, whatever skills you bring to our organization, your efforts helped our credit union succeed during very difficult financial times,” said Thayer, this year’s Chairman of the Board of First Choice America, West Virginia’s largest credit union.
   Chairman Thayer said the purpose of the event was to recognize and reward the contributions of employees to First Choice America’s success.  “That is the sole purpose of this banquet—to express our thanks and appreciation to all of you for your continued outstanding performance.”
    He added, “It’s all about your commitment to excellence; your dedication, and your effective performance. To all of you on our First Choice America employee team, congratulations and thank you from management and the Board of Directors on a job well done.”
    Scott E. Winwood, President and CEO, cited the credit union’s achievements thus far in 2009.  He said the highlights are:
·         Maintained a superior NCUA rating.
·         Achieved a flawless audit.
·         Managed assets, loans, investments, and deposits to all-time highs
